Meetings
Meetings are held Wednesdays at 6:30 Rain or Shine.
Directions to Meetings -- Click Here!
It would only be canceled in very extreme cases. (Hurricanes, Blizzards)
In that event everyone will be called on the phone.
ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT! When teaching lesson plans over several meetings, we want you to get all of it. If you miss a meeting, you will miss certain things you should know. As a curtesy, it would be helpful if we follow an attendance policy. If you cannot attend a meeting please notify your Patrol Leader. If you cannot get hold of him, call your Asst. Patrol Leader. Get hold of SOMEONE and tell them of your absence. You should find out what you missed from the person you call.

Camping
Our troop does a lot of camping, and we expect our scouts to know what they are doing. We teach a lot of outdoor skills during these trips so we ask that every scout go on at least five trips a year. There are two IMPORTANT ones as well as two optional ones.
The IMPORTANT ones are: The Camporee, where we are judged as a troop on our camping ability,
and The Klondike Derby, where we use our skills at Map and Compass to compete.
The two REQUIRED functions are
The Fundraisers, Where we make the troop's budget for the year,
And the Memorial Day Parade where we honor all of our soldiers in uniform, living and dead.
We have Summer Camp for a whole week. It is usually in the end of July but it may vary. There is a different way to pack for a whole week. The scout will know what he needs and how to pack it.
You will need camping gear like a good "three season" Sleeping Bag. We do go Winter camping too, so a thick wool blanket in the sleeping bag will be fine. It must be waterproofed for carrying. A garbage bag will cover the pack and bag together but they also sell real pack covers for this purpose.
The scout will need a mess kit. You don't need to buy one, all you need is plastic. Not the disposable kind but nonbreakable dishes. Just a plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork, and spoon will cover everything.
We provide the tent, groundcloth, and pots. We don't carry them though. The boy must get them from our Quartermaster the meeting before we go, and put it in his pack. The Scout will know what to pack. He needs to pack light.
The main object is dry and warm. He must have a hat, good boots, and carry a rain poncho. These three objects are the most important for comfort. If a child is comfortable he will have a good time.

Clark Pickens is the troop's Outdoorsman and author of these webpages. He works for Connecticut's Social Services department of Child Support Enforcement by day and goes to school by night. He has put three sons through the scouting program. Clark has college training in Psychology, philosophy, and the Earth Sciences. He practices Astronomy, Genealogy, and Computer Sciences whenever possible. He has extensive backround in outdoor activities and will be leading the troop on hikes and camping trips.

These five dedicated and qualified leaders bring over ?? collective years of scouting experience to our troop. We have turned out 9 eagle scouts since our beginnings in 1991 and have camped in many of the most exciting places in New England. Our boys have choices in how our troop is run and they get to plan and do the high adventure trips. We leaders make sure their plans can be carried out.
So if your son wants to do the kind of high adventure scouting that he can brag to his friends about, and learn the values and ethics of our society in the process, Come to our meetings and see what we are all about.
